Chief Strategy Officer
Outstanding Corporate Citizen of the Year Emerging Influential of the Year Nominee
Why do you believe CSR is an important part of your personal brand?
CSR is important to my personal brand because it is a reflection of who I am as an individual and what is important to me. The initiatives and charities I undertake and support are indicative of my personal social values. In turn, these initiatives and charities also present opportunities for learning and personal development, which help me mature as an individual and evolve my personal brand.
Do you believe that the CSR work you participate in should be affiliated with the work you/your company does? For example, should an Oil company’s CSR be in cleaning up oil spills?
I believe that the CSR work that I do should be aligned to my company’s values and core principles, not necessarily to the actual work that they company does. In the example provided, I do not believe that an oil company’s CSR can be cleaning up oil spills. This is the oil company’s responsibility as defined by environmental and other regulations, not necessarily an element of their corporate values. True CSR goes beyond what is required to effect positive and social change.
Do you believe contributing back to the community allows you to have a deeper connection with your clients/customers?
Absolutely. Our clients/customers are members of our community and have the same interest in helping to enhance the community’s well-being. This share interest, and the efforts we take to support it, creates a deeper bond between us and our clients.
What are some events or causes that inspire you?
The causes that inspire me are reflected in the type of charity and corporate citizenship work that I do. Continuing education (especially of underprivileged youth), caring for children who need medical attention but who’s parent cannot afford it, and alleviating poverty in developing areas are causes that inspire me to help and to do more.
What advice would you give to individuals trying to find a cause in which to participate?
I would tell individuals to first identify a cause or initiative that they are passionate about and that they can relate to. Then look for efforts that align to those causes or initiatives and get involved. This passion, and alignment with core values, will help to propel an individual’s active involvement, establish a foundation for creativity in helping the effort, and instilling a sense of personal fulfillment – which is what drives us to really make a difference!
