1. Why do you believe CSR is an important part of your personal brand/company?
At B&A, we believe it is important to go beyond just delivering successful service to the clients we serve. Our commitment to philanthropy, community leadership, and volunteer support continues to expand each year.
2. Do you believe that the CSR work you participate in should be affiliated with the work you/your
Yes, we are focused on operating in a socially responsible manner that supports our core values, mission, and vision objectives, and expands our strategic priorities. For example, it is important to us to be able to advise, mentor, and lend our advice to small businesses through the Mentor-Protégé Program. B&A serves as a mentor to PrimeSource Technologies and has brought business opportunities to PST and supported PST during the business development process to secure opportunities. We believe that aspiring entrepreneurs and small businesses should take every opportunity to learn from their successes and their failures.
3. What makes your company stand out compared to other companies participating in CSR?
At B&A, we provide the opportunities to volunteer and communicate this throughout the company, we want to ensure that opportunities are encouraged and that corporate resources are engaged with all efforts. We achieve this by encouraging corporate employees to dedicate time to give back without having to use Paid Time Off. We design our corporate initiatives to encourage and facilitate our people’s involvement.
4. Do you believe contributing back to the community allows you/your company to have a deeper connection with your clients/customers?
Yes, we believe in placing great importance on improving the communities and lives of citizens across the nation through our involvement, technology expertise, and employees. At B&A, building relationships, supporting education, strengthening entrepreneurial thinkers, and putting an emphasis on volunteering and charitable efforts is the foundation of our business. Volunteering strengthens our organization and our people. Our people are our greatest asset, so we provide extra support where they need it. Our people serve on multiple charities and support nonprofit initiatives that benefit the health, welfare, and education of children, families, students, and small business partners.
5. What are some events or causes that inspire you?
Employees across the organization contribute their time and talents to supporting a variety of causes, both large and small, such as Shine on Casey which awards a scholarship to a graduating senior from a local High School; Rebuilding Together Montgomery County (RTMC) which provides free critical home repairs, energy efficiency upgrades, and accessibility modifications to the county’s most vulnerable residents; the Cardinal Bank Classic which supports nonprofit initiatives in the areas of children and families, healthcare and wellness, arts and humanities, and educational services; Chance for Life which supports pediatric cancer; the Celtino organization which promotes education in rural Latin America by building schools, providing supplies, and giving high school scholarship; and the Asian American Lead (AALEAD) which supports low-income and underserved Asian Pacific American youth with educational empowerment, identity development, and leadership opportunities through after school, summer, and mentoring programs.
I serve on the Board of Directors for Hope for Henry Foundation, which has opened many doors for B&A to continue their involvement in the Northern Virginia area and beyond. Hope for Henry works to reinvent the pediatric patient experience, by empowering children with cancer and other serious illnesses to actively participate in their own care. Since its inception, the Hope for Henry Foundation has served more than 14,000 children.
6. What advice would you give to individuals/companies trying to find a cause in which to participate?
My advice would be to find a cause that you and your employees feel strongly towards and have a passion for. At B&A, we put an emphasis on encouraging our employees to take part in their communities and make meaningful contributions. Our employees are highly regarded and active members of civic, service, and charitable organizations throughout the B&A footprint. This starts from our leadership who are consistently communicating accessible opportunities for employees to engage and participate.
