Dawn S. Davis, Director of Community Engagement
1. Why do you believe CSR strategy is important for a company?
Having a CSR strategy is important for long-term organizational success. To have a clear mission that incorporates employee commitment and community service sends a message that the company is invested in the future of the people it serves.
2. Do you believe that the CSR work you participate in should be affiliated with the work you/your company does?
CSR should be driven by a company’s desire and commitment to positively impact the community which includes, but is not limited to, approaching its practices in a moral and ethical manner to that community’s betterment. If that is a company’s driving force, then the affiliation is simply a preference.
3. What makes your company stand out compared to other companies participating in CSR?
As a credit union, we follow the credit union mantra of “people helping people.” As a company, we take that a step further with our mission to “improve lives and fulfill dreams.” We do this with one of our focuses, financial education. Many members in the community have little to no knowledge of financial matters; saving for the future, teaching their children how to save. We take this head-on by teaching financial education workshops to community and business members that includes non-profits. Achieving financial success means something different for everyone, and we want to help them find that success.
4. Do you believe contributing back to the community allows your company to have a deeper connection with its clients/customers?
Yes, absolutely. We get to hear firsthand what our members are going through financially – which affects many aspects of life. When we are able to give back, we know we are helping our members and their families.
5. What advice would you give to companies trying to participate in CSR?
Ensure you have organizational support at all levels; including your board of directors. This support is critical to establishing a culture that inspires and fosters CSR. And seek out other organizations that share a similar commitment to CSR.
“It is always rewarding to assist good causes for the community
that we serve. Knowing that you’re helping out for a few hours
could possibly change a day in someone’s life, is truly one of
the best feelings ever.”
