The Fairfax Chamber was pleased to host Governor Terry McAuliffe to keynote Building the New Virginia Economy, Innovation and Entrepreneurship in Northern Virginia. The Governor’s keynote focused on his administration’s economic development priorities. He also provided a 2015 Virginia General Assembly session debrief. Delegate Villanueva Visits the Fairfax Chamber
On May 6th, Delegate Ron Villanueva (R-21) participated in a round table discussion with members of the Fairfax Chamber Board of Directors, Policy Committee, and NOVABizPAC. Delegate Villanueva is currently the Vice Chair of the Transportation Committee and the Chair Designee, pending his re-election. The discussion focused on transportation in Northern Virginia and throughout the Commonwealth. Delegate Villanueva stated that he is working diligently to keep the region moving and supports the concept of I-66 expansion as a public-private partnership. Governor McAuliffe Signs Executive Order Launching “Cyber Virginia”
On May 5th, Fairfax Chamber President and CEO, Jim Corcoran introduced keynote speaker Governor Terry McAuliffe at the “Virginia Security and Consumer Protection Summit” held at the headquarters for the Center for Innovation Technology. At the event, Governor Terry McAuliffe signed anexecutive order which will launch a new framework for the Commonwealth’s cyber security efforts, called “Cyber Virginia.” The executive order aims to bring public and private sector experts together to establish Virginia as the nation’s leader in cyber security. Interstate Group Holdings Inc. Promotes New Vice President and General Manager
Interstate Group Holdings Inc. has announced the promotion of Mark Lundgren to Vice President and General Manager of its subsidiary, Interstate Van Lines. Lundgren is a veteran in the industry with more than 40 years of experience, and the promotion comes at a time of strong growth within the company. Interstate Van Lines President, J.D. Fairfax Chamber Members Among Virginia’s 50 Fastest Growing Businesses
Virginia Business has released its 2015 Virginia’s 50 Fastest Growing Businesses list which includes five Fairfax Chamber member companies. The list is based on companies’ four-year revenue growth from 2010-2013. The five Chamber members who made the cut are: Eagle Ray, Inc., Fluet Huber + Hoang PLLC, Phacil, Inc., First Virginia Community Bank, and Octo Consulting Group, Inc. Bechtel Listed Among America’s Best Employers
Forbes magazine has released its annual ‘America’s Best Employers’ list for 2015 and Bechtel has been honored on the list. The list is comprised from surveys of more than 20,000 employers listing companies in their industry that they would recommend to potential employees. Governor McAuliffe Announces Recipients of the 2015 Governor’s Volunteerism and Community Service Awards
Governor McAuliffe announced recipients of the 2015 Governor’s Volunteerism and Community Service Awards during a ceremony held at the Governor’s Mansion. These awards spotlight the outstanding efforts individual and organization volunteers make on behalf of citizens throughout the Commonwealth. Fairfax Chamber member Dominion Resources was the Corporation honored at the ceremony. Dominion Resources energizes communities through its dynamic employee volunteer program. Bechtel Receives Highest Grade in Study of Anti-Corruption Programs
Bechtel received an ‘A’ from the Transparency International UK’s Defense Companies Anti-Corruption Index 2015 ratings. This study measures the transparency and quality of ethics and anti-corruption programs of 163 defense companies in 47 countries. eTERA Consulting Adds to Growing Team
Fairfax Chamber member, eTERA Consulting has announced the addition of five new full-time team members in support of the company’s growing list of clients and employees. Joining the eTERA team are Project Managers Austin Hagen and Alan Moyer; Data Analyst Mable Tun; HR Generalist Kristin Thomas; and Manager of Public Relations, Cassey Elder. In addition, eTERA announced the one-year anniversary of the company’s successful All1ance One Partner Program.
Community Foundation for Northern Virginia Hosts Inaugural Chairman’s Breakfast
The Community Foundation for Northern Virginia presented its inaugural Chairman’s Breakfast this morning to celebrate the impact of our work in the Northern Virginia community and to inspire donors to think about their philanthropy in new and innovative ways. The program included a presentation of the Chairman’s Awards to outstanding individuals and community partners whose commitment to meeting community needs has significantly helped further the Community Foundation’s mission: Boeing, The Washington Business Journal and John H. Volkswagen Pledges $250,000 to George Mason School of Business
The Volkswagen Group of America has pledged a $250,000 donation to the George Mason School of Business Dean’s Investment Fund. Volkswagen recognizes that the future success of the community depends on the education of today’s young people. Fairfax Chamber members Cvent, Deltek and Excella are among the finalists for the 5th Annual Institute for Excellence in Sales awards to be awarded on June 11 at the USA Today Building in Tyson’s Corner. The award event, which is hosted by FCCC member the Institute for Excellence in Sales, recognizes companies across the US for operational excellence in sales training, innovation, and three other categories. John Marshall Bank Ranks Among Top 100 on SNL Financial
Fairfax Chamber member John Marshall Bank has once again been recognized by bank analyst SNL in its annual list of top-performing community banks in the United States. For this ranking, SNL defined community banks as institutions with between $500 million and $5 billion in assets and 60 or fewer offices. In addition, at least one-third of the bank’s balance sheets must be composed of loans and less than half of those loans can be attributable to credit card lending. “As a proud member of the Washington, DC metropolitan community, we credit our dedicated employees and loyal customers for our success,” said John Maxwell, Chairman and CEO.
